Our Story.

Why Heritage Hill?

Heritage Hill Baptist Church began with a simple conviction: Healthy churches matter.

For decades, our family has had the privilege of serving in pastoral ministry, missionary work, church planting, and church planter development. Again and again, we have seen God use ordinary local churches to make disciples, care for people, raise up leaders, send missionaries, and plant other churches.

Those experiences have shaped the kind of church we hope Heritage Hill will become.

  • Not a church built around personality.

  • Not a church built around trends.

  • Not a church built simply to gather a crowd.

But a church rooted in God’s Word, centered on the gospel, serious about making disciples, committed to life together, and eager to live sent and multiply.

Why North Texas?

In 2026, our family moved from Canada back to North Texas to begin a new season of church planting ministry. As we prayed about where God might have us invest our lives, our attention kept being drawn toward the rapidly growing communities surrounding Aubrey and North Denton County.

As you know, new neighborhoods are being built, families are moving in, schools are being built and are quickly filling, and brand-new master-build communities are taking shape. And with that growth comes an incredible opportunity for helping start new local churches in these rapidly growing areas.

But not just any kind of church. No, we know that these areas need churches:

  • where the gospel is proclaimed clearly.

  • where people are known and cared for.

  • where Christians are equipped to make disciples.

  • where families are strengthened.

  • where ordinary believers are sent into everyday life on mission.

And the thing is: we don’t just need one new church planted in this area … we need dozens. This is why we are aiming to start a church that passionately trains, equips and mobilizes men and women for gospel ministry here in North Texas to form church plant teams to see more healthy churches started in our area.

That is why we are planting Heritage Hill here.

Why the Name Heritage Hill?

Great question! Besides being a wonderful band name, a heritage is not something we create … it’s something we receive. And it is something we pass on.

As Christians, we have received an incredible heritage:

  • We have received God’s Word.

  • We have received the gospel.

  • We have received the historic Christian faith.

  • We have received the faithful witness of generations of Christians who came before us.

We want to receive that heritage humbly and faithfully … and then we want to pass it on.

  • To our children.

  • To our neighbors.

  • To new believers.

  • To future leaders.

  • To future churches.

  • And, Lord willing, to generations we will never meet.

That is the kind of heritage we want to build.

Planted From a Local Church

We believe healthy churches are best planted by other healthy churches, and we have the great joy of being planted out of Redeemer Church in Denton, Texas.

Our Lead Pastor, Aaron, currently serves on staff at Redeemer as a Church Planting Resident, where he is helping develop a residency for future church planters while preparing to launch Heritage Hill in September 2027.

Throughout this process, the elders and church family at Redeemer are providing pastoral support, encouragement, accountability, training, and partnership as Heritage Hill moves toward launch.

We are deeply grateful that we are not planting alone.

We are being sent.

A Long Road Toward Church Planting

Church planting is not something new to our family. When Aaron was wrapping up his undergrad, he had the joy of being a Church Planting Resident with The Summit Church in Raleigh, NC before being sent out of that church with the North American Mission Board and spent 15+ years pastoring and planting churches in Canada, most recently The Trails Church in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

The years at The Summit Church, ministry in Canada, and his seminary education at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary reinforced a conviction that continues to shape Heritage Hill: The local church is one of God’s primary means for making disciples and displaying the gospel to the world.

Other convictions were also formed, for example: Church planting is not mainly about launching a Sunday service, it is about seeing a people formed. A people who:

  • love Jesus.

  • know God’s Word.

  • love one another.

  • who make disciples who know how to make disciples.

  • who live sent.

  • are willing to give themselves for the sake of others.

That is what we are praying God will build at Heritage Hill.

Starting Small

Heritage Hill is currently being planted not through Sunday services, but through prayer, dinner tables, friendships, neighboring, and many cups of coffee. In this season, we are beginning to gather in homes for Bible studies and in smaller discipleship groups where people can go deeper in God’s Word, prayer, accountability, and helping one another follow Jesus.

As God brings more people together, our hope is to see several small groups begin to form across the area before we ever gather for regular Sunday services. These groups will give us space to build real relationships, practice life together, serve our neighborhoods, make disciples, and begin forming the culture of Heritage Hill from the ground up.

Our public launch (covenanting service) is planned for September 2027, but we do not believe the work of planting the church begins on launch Sunday.

It is already beginning now.

We want to build slowly.

Biblically.

Relationally.

Missionally.

And with the hope that the foundations laid in this season will shape Heritage Hill for generations to come.

What Are We Praying For?

We are praying that Heritage Hill would become a church that:

  • Proclaims the gospel clearly

  • Teaches the Bible faithfully

  • Makes disciples intentionally

  • Practices meaningful church membership

  • Raises up qualified leaders

  • Lives life together

  • Loves and serves its neighbors

  • Sends missionaries

  • Develops church planters

  • Plants healthy churches

More than anything, we want Heritage Hill to be faithful.

  • Faithful to Jesus.

  • Faithful to His Word.

  • Faithful to His mission.

  • Faithful to the people God gives us.

  • And faithful to pass on what we have received.

The Story Is Still Being Written

Heritage Hill is still in its first chapter.

We haven’t held our first gathering. Instead, the church is still being gathered. Our culture is still being formed. Relationships are still being built. And that is part of what makes this season so special.

There is still room to help shape what this church becomes.

If you have been praying about where to invest your life, if you are new to the area, if church planting has stirred something in you, or if you are simply curious about what God is doing, we would love to hear your story too.

It starts with a conversation.
